Remembering and Honoring Susan L. Costa

Sue Costa

Susan L. Costa

   1947-2007

Sue Costa, though born in New York City, was a life-long resident of Rochester who unselfishly dedicated herself to improving our community. She was a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, the University of Puerto Rico (where she met her husband, Juan) and Syracuse University. Sue worked at the Urban League, the Lewis Street Settlement, and the Health Association, the latter as Executive Director from 1984-2002. Our community was well served by Sue as founder and an officer of Alternatives for Battered Women, Inc., board member of Boys and Girls Clubs, member and past Vice President of Rochester Rotary Club, founder of Hispanic Leadership Development Program, member of United Way of Greater Rochester, Inc., the Rochester Resource Alliance Youth Council, and was instrumental in founding the Latino Political Campaign Academy. Sue was Executive Director of the Rochester Engineering Society from 2004 to 2007, and we are grateful for her time with our organization.

Her life example as a wife, mother and leader leaves us energized for the future.
