Biosketch
Dr. Gdowski is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Medical Technology & Innovation (CMTI). The purpose of the CMTI is to coordinate educational and entrepreneurial activities related to the development of novel technological solutions to clinical problems. A principal activity is a Master’s Degree program in Medical Technology Innovation within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The students within this program interact with both clinical and engineering faculty to identify critical needs in the clinic and to develop practical engineering solutions that will facilitate and improve health care delivery.
He has been an active volunteer within several professional societies and not-for-profit organizations. At the RES he has served as the First Vice President (2018-20), 2nd Vice President (2017-18), and Director (2016-17). He has been instrumental in helping with the Strategic Planning Committee, Annual Gala, web pages, and recruitment of articles within the magazine.
He is a leader within the IEEE (an RES affiliate member). He served as a Section Chair in Syracuse from 2010-11, and in Rochester from 2013-17. He more recently served as the Region 1 Western Area Chair (2018-20) and has been elected as the current Region 1 Director-Elect. In his current role ad Director-Elect he represents 22 IEEE sections within the northeastern United States including 24,000 members. He assists in representing the membership of Region 1 by attending IEEE Assembly, IEEE Board of Director, Member and Geographic Board, MGA Assembly and IEEE-USA Board meetings.
He is also member of the Board of Directors of the Medtech Association, which is an association of over 150 Upstate NY pharmaceutical, biotech and medical technology companies, their suppliers and service providers, and research universities.
He serves as an ABET Program Evaluator for biomedical engineering programs.
He is a fellow of the the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). Dr. Gdowski completed his BS, MS, and PhD in biomedical engineering from Boston University.
